- I am a continuing student (admitted prior to Fall 2006) working on a
math minor. I was planning on taking MAT 127A, but that has been
replaced with MAT 25. If I take MAT 25, may I count it toward my minor?
- I am a continuing student and I am thinking about registering for MAT
67 or MAT 133, both of which are new. I have been following the old plan
(prior to Fall 2006) and I'm not entirely sure I have enough background
for these classes. What should I do?
- I am a continuing student who is following a pre-Fall 2006 degree
requirement plan. Under that plan, I'm required to take MAT 127A, which
is now replaced by 25, a lower division course. Under these
circumstances, will the 25 be counted under the upper division
requirement under my plan?
- I failed MAT127A which has now been replaced with MAT25. Is it possible for me to clear up the bad grade in MAT127A by taking MAT25?
- I failed MAT131 which has now been cancelled and NOT replaced by another class. Is it possible for me to clear up the bad grade in 131?
- I like parts of the "old" plan (prior to Fall 2006) and parts of the "new" plan (effective Fall 2006). May I combine them into a plan that better meets my needs?
- I was planning to register for a class in 2006-07 and now the prereqs have changed. Am I permitted to take the "new" class?
- I was planning to take 149A and 149B next year (2006-2007) and now
these courses have changed. The equivalent to 149A (146) is currently
scheduled for Spring 07. The equivalent to 149B (148) is currently
scheduled for Winter 07. Is it okay if I take 148 (the old 149B) before
I take 146 (the old 149A)?
- I'm a new student this year (Fall 2006) and I prefer the degree requirements in place prior to this year. May I follow that plan instead?
- I'm a transfer student who is starting UCD in Fall 2006. Do I have to
use the Fall 2006 math degree requirements or may I use an earlier version?
- I'm currently following an "old" plan (prior to Fall 2006). Can I adopt the new one?
- I'm looking for (121, 127A, 127B, 131, 132A, 149A, 149B), where are they?
Frequently Asked Questions
I am a continuing student (admitted prior to Fall 2006) working on a
math minor. I was planning on taking MAT 127A, but that has been
replaced with MAT 25. If I take MAT 25, may I count it toward my minor?
Yes, a continuing student (admitted prior to Fall 2006) may use MAT
25 toward the math minor. A new student (entered in Fall 2006 or later),
does NOT have this option.
I am a continuing student and I am thinking about registering for MAT
67 or MAT 133, both of which are new. I have been following the old plan
(prior to Fall 2006) and I'm not entirely sure I have enough background
for these classes. What should I do?
If you are in the old system (prior to Fall 2006) and feel you do not
have the precise prerequisites, or, for whatever the reason, you're not
confident that you're ready for a particular class, talk to the
instructor of the class to determine whether you have enough training to
take their class.
I am a continuing student who is following a pre-Fall 2006 degree
requirement plan. Under that plan, I'm required to take MAT 127A, which
is now replaced by 25, a lower division course. Under these
circumstances, will the 25 be counted under the upper division
requirement under my plan?
Yes.
I failed MAT127A which has now been replaced with MAT25. Is it possible for me to clear up the bad grade in MAT127A by taking MAT25?
Yes. Keitha Hunter of the Office of the Registrar is setting that up
for us, per our 7-19-06 email communication with her.
I failed MAT131 which has now been cancelled and NOT replaced by another class. Is it possible for me to clear up the bad grade in 131?
We addressed this question to Keitha Hunter of the Office of the
Registrar. Here is her response of 7-13-2006:
"If a student failed 131,
your department would need to determine an appropriate substitute and
notify the dean's office with a request to use the substitute for repeat
purposes. If the dean's office sends us (the Office of the Registrar)
their approval, we would make a manual correction for the individual
student."
I like parts of the "old" plan (prior to Fall 2006) and parts of the "new" plan (effective Fall 2006). May I combine them into a plan that better meets my needs?
No.
I was planning to register for a class in 2006-07 and now the prereqs have changed. Am I permitted to take the "new" class?
Yes. We recognize that 2006-07 will need to be a transition year and we will
do our best to work with each student.
I was planning to take 149A and 149B next year (2006-2007) and now
these courses have changed. The equivalent to 149A (146) is currently
scheduled for Spring 07. The equivalent to 149B (148) is currently
scheduled for Winter 07. Is it okay if I take 148 (the old 149B) before
I take 146 (the old 149A)?
Yes, these are now independent courses.
I'm a new student this year (Fall 2006) and I prefer the degree requirements in place prior to this year. May I follow that plan instead?
No.
I'm a transfer student who is starting UCD in Fall 2006. Do I have to
use the Fall 2006 math degree requirements or may I use an earlier version?
For the Math degree requirements, it is the Department's policy that
incoming students will follow the degree requirements in effect at the
time they officially declared their major, which in your case would be
Fall 2006.
As to the non-math requirements, the College of Letters & Science allows
you to choose to fulfill the university and College requirements in
effect at any time you were registered in a postsecondary institution of
higher education; e.g., community college, college or university.*
NOTE: We understand that many issues will come up during the first year
of transition to the new program. Please feel free to consult Student
Services (studentservices@math.ucdavis.edu) if special issues arise
relative to the math degree requirements.
* Below is a copy of the entire section "Degree Requirement Changes,"
from page 95 of the 2006-2008 General Catalog:
On occasion, the faculty makes changes in the requirements that
students must satisfy to obtain the baccalaureate degree. So that you
will not be penalized by changes that may work to your disadvantage
and so that you will benefit by changes that assist you in completing
your degree requirements, it is College policy that you may choose to
fulfill the university and College requirements (see General
Education requirement for an exception) as stated in any UC Davis
General Catalog in effect at any time you were registered in a
postsecondary institution of higher education; e.g., community
college, college or university.
Once you have chosen the year of the General Catalog under which you
wish to be governed, you must satisfy all of the university and
college requirements specified in that college. With respect to the
completion of your major requirements, most of the majors in the
College of Letter and Science require completion of the major degree
requirements in effect at the time you officially declared your
major. However, because departments differ in how they handle these
matters, check with the department or major program office if you
have any questions about which requirements apply to you.
I'm currently following an "old" plan (prior to Fall 2006). Can I adopt the new one?
Yes.
I'm looking for (121, 127A, 127B, 131, 132A, 149A, 149B), where are they?
Several courses have been cancelled, some replaced by others and
renumbered. Here is a
table of new, renumbered and cancelled courses.
